Scarlet Peonies

An idiomatic lament, wherein
All that is lost is found again
In a hubris of feverish dissent
In the meanings superseding
In the curses of the verses
Coursing through my veins
Like demi-sec champagne
Today, a vixen
Tomorrow, a contradiction
On par with shooting stars
Sleepless as banshees
Jostling aimless between cable cars
It seems these streets
Have memorized my disguises
The tendencies rendering me useless
By sunrise, with full moon pupils
Widening the divide
Between need and desire
Drenched in mourning black
A heart attack in peep toe stilettos
Seeking defeat (like a drink)
In a city certain of its appraisal
And affirmed in its affinity
For dreamers with debaucherous streaks
With due diligence comes its accuracy
In naming my heart a rebellious carousel
As it churns, in reverse
It’s depravities carved into raging steeds
Sheathed in scarlet peonies

    1. This is quite possibly one of my favorite comments, ever. You understood this piece so well Rob. I am so enamored but this response and how you connected to its entire emotional design. A mortal epiphany in concrete in glass. Just, wow. ❤️‍🔥💋
