Placebo

You have mistaken me

For a dispensary

Doling desire with sterile measure

And also—

The palliative prescription, therein

A feminine formulation

Of encapsulated adoration

A synthetic genesis

Of long legs and gaping lips

Quiet, obedient, until needed

For relief

The remedy for ennui

The poetic antidote

For remote loneliness

You would have me be

Provisioned

In precise increments

Restrained to veins

That lead away

From the arrhythmia that plagues

Never intersecting with arteries

Or genuine reciprocity

You would swallow me

In therapeutic doses, only

Until convinced of a cure

More convenient

With less intense side effects

Such as pleasure, or happiness

Preferring, instead

The deadened libido

Tended to by placebo

    1. Oh, thank you! I’m so pleased the metaphor seems to have resounded with some of my readers. I’m flattered and I appreciate you taking the time to comment! Xo 🦊♥️
