Regrettable Irreverence

To thee, two thousand and twenty

I bequeath this ubiquitous lament

To thee, most egregious year

Beloved little betrayer

Darling in thy discontent

To thee and thine, I leave only this

Of malice, a regrettable irreverence

And fleeting, though it be

On the Eve of thy completion

Let it be agreed

We died, on a pitch of desire

Deserving of a plaintive refrain

In a time of dire restraint

That sought, once, to eulogize us

Before the great restoration

“Vivamus, moriendum est.”

{“Let us live – we must die.”}

a. duncan, 2020

This year we survived, next year we thrive.

Gorgeous in its desolation. Your wispy vocals over the piano, weeping sorrow, is priceless. Happy New Year, April. I look forward to being your friend in 2021 and beyond.
