the terrible audacity of attraction

slinging it’s irrevocable arrows

subtly pretending to possess

an aim that’s indiscriminate

as it makes exquisite

of the previously non-descript

it’s a ludicrous conspiracy, really—

written in our biology, indelibly

as much a curse as it is a remedy

attraction and it’s maddening laws

need not for humanity’s consent

a force of beguiling delights

in such torments

eager in altering our longings

with rose colored eyesight

it’s only a matter of time

before our blueprints align

we are all unwitting locks

in search of our one true key

each engraved tenderly

“perhaps I’m your destiny?”

thus attraction reclines wordless

smiling at its own absurdity

perfectly content, deliberate

in our heart’s emergencies
