corvidae confined

I am a magpie

crooning patsy cline melodies

in a gilded cage, engraved tenderly

with 1 Corinthians 13

beneath an eastern moon, divided

by bars of careless beguiling

I stay, an avian tamed

inexplicably courageous, even with clipped wings

deeply disoriented by unwise migration

but nurturing daydreams nevertheless

of belonging, to a patient sky

one that can’t conveniently dissapear

to fly, simply for the sake of escaping

the fate, of a corvidae confined
